The Ateneo de San Pablo was a former Jesuit elementary and high school in San Pablo City, Laguna, Philippines. It was established in 1947. The school was closed by the Diocese of San Pablo in 1978, and turned into a diocesan school. It became known as Liceo de San Pablo.

In 1912, the Seminario Menor de San Francisco de Sales, consisting of a two-storey building was constructed adjacent to the Cathedral. After some years, however, it was closed and transferred to Lipa. Before the outbreak of the Second World War, the Seminary building and its premises were donated to the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) for conversion into a tertiary educational institution. This was during the term of Bishop Afredo Versoza of the Diocese of Lipa, which included the province of Laguna, and the city of San Pablo. In 1947, the Jesuit Fathers converted the former Seminary, which was partially damaged by the Japanese forces, into a secondary school. It was named ATENEO DE SAN PABLO. Later on, however,the Jesuits unilaterally decided to close the school. Negotiations for the turnover were carried out between the Jesuits and the newly created Diocese of San Pablo under its first bishop, Monsignor Pedro Natividad Bantigue, D.D. And in the year 1978, the Supreme Ecclesiastical Tribunal in the Vatican City (Rome) finally decided the fate of the school in favor of the Diocese of San Pablo. The former Ateneo de San Pablo is now the LICEO DE SAN PABLO.

Dito sa haiskul magsisimulang mahinog ang mga pangarap sa buhay. At dito hinuhubog ang isang istudyante para ihanda sa susunod na antas ng pag-aaral ang pagtawid sa kolehiyo.
Di ko akalain na makakapasok ako sa Ateneo de San Pablo. Ang alam ko ay di kami magkakahiwalay ng mga kaeskuwela ko nung elementarya sa aming bayan. Malayo sa aming bayan ang San Pablo. Ang pangkaraniwang biyahe nuon sa jeep at bus ay mga 45 minutes bago makarating sa Ateneo.
Pero mukhang iginuhit na Diyos ang aking kapalaran. Nakapasa ako sa mahirap na entrance test at ewan ko ba kung bakit dun ako napasama sa klase na 1B...at nalaman ko na lang(at matagal din) na dito pinagsama-sama ang mga medyo mataas ang grade sa entrance test...na-honor, salutatorian at validictorian sa kanya-kanyang mga bayan na pinanggalingan. Nanibago talaga ako sa stayl ng pagtuturo at aral sa Ateneo kasi galing ako sa isang public school. At alam ko nung mga unang grading ay napatawag ni Mr. Cabrera(alam ko siya ang Dean nuon) ang magulang ko dahil maraming palakol sa aking mga marka. Pero dahan-dahan naman akong nakapag-adjust at nakuha ko rin ang stayl ng pag-aaral...kung 50 kami sa klase nuon sa 1B...tingin ko na-maintain ko naman na lagi akong kasama sa last 10...hehe. Mahirap talagang makipagsabayan sa mga honor na galing sa ibat-ibang iskul. Pero nagpapasalamat din ako dahil sa nakasama ako sa klase na ito...masaya, masarap, mahirap pero punong-puno naman naman ng pakikipagsamahan at pakikipagkaibigan sa mga tunay na tao na nanalig kay Kristo.
Ang mga kaklase ko nuon sa 1B ay galing sa Ateneo grade school, San Pablo Sity School at sa lahat ng mga mababang paaralan ng mga bayan na nakapaligid sa San Pablo City...katulad ng Tiaong(Quezon), Candelaria(Quezon), Santo Tomas(Batangas), Nagcarlan(Laguna), San Diego(San Pablo), Bay(Laguna), Calauan(Laguna)...
Dahil nanggagaling ako sa Liliw, kailangan ay maaga ang gising at dapat nakahanda na ang baon para sa tanghalian para sa pagdaan ng BLTB bus ng alasais ng umaga.
Corn Huskers 1B
Ang unang taon ng aking pakikibaka sa Ateneo.
Ibang-iba ang mga aktibidades at aral sa Ateneo kumpara sa ibang iskul. At isa dito ang pagkakaroon ng class identity...kaya ayun napagkasunduan ng klase sa pangunguna ni Bro. Dunne na tawagin kaming Corn Huskers nung first year namin.
Ang daming aktibidades sa kabila ng dami rin 'homework' pag-uwi sa bahay. May PMT sa Lunes, Intramurals kung Martes, May Mass yata every Friday...teka anu pa.
Tama ba ako?...every Monday ang Assembly sa Gym?...para sa 'Lupang Hinirang' at 'Panatang makabayan'?
Masaya rin ang Guitar Mass sa Chapel at siyempre ang makabagbag damdaming mga homily nila Father. Di ko makakalimutan ang songs of the 70's na ginagamit natin nuon sa Misa katulad ng...'Let It Be' ng Beatles, '500 Miles' & 'If I had a Hammer' (Mamas & the Papas ba ito??)
Tuwing tanghali ito naman ang bonding moments namin ng mga may baon at pagkatapos takbo na sa gym para sa siyesta time.
Matindi ang PMT...ang tigas ng uniform kasi yari sa khaki. Medyo long pants ako nun at nalusutan ko ang short pants...medyo sexy kasi ang dating ng short pants...hehe. Nung bandang huli naisipan ko sana sa Drum & Bugle na lang ako...paupo-upo lang.
May 'class night' yata once a year. Masaya ito...laro-laro pa lang at puyatan sa iskul...bonding sa mga klasmets. Okay pa kung first year kasi wholesome pa lang ang mga pinaggagawa. Antayin ninyo ang kuwento ko sa susunod na mga years...PG at XXX na.
Madalang akong ma-posts...every after class ba ito sa hapon?...3 pm?...Machunurin at mabait yata ako nuon kaya di ako suki sa posts. Siyempre ang di makakalimutan dito ay si Mr Aquino.
Mabigat din ang madali ng 'Long Hair'...uukaan ka sa buhok ni Mr Aquino kapag nahuli..may post pa yata...yari pa ang porma sa chicks.
Isa pang extra-challenge sa akin ay dun sa subject na may 'declamation'...talagang di ko ipinanganak na showbiz...yun bang mag-recite ng mga linya mula sa isang 'literary play' at sa harapan pa ng klase...buti na lang very supportive yung mga naka-upo sa harapan ng klase na kapag pumapalya na ako ay nakahanda na silang bumulong para madugsungan ko ang nakakalimutang mga linya. Alam ninyo na kung sino ang matitinik dito at alam ko sumasali sila sa 'elocution contest'(tama ba?). Pero salamat na rin kasi napakinabangan ko ito later in my life...ang maging kapal muks sa harap ng maraming tao.
Sa Intramurals naman ay sa basketbol lang ako mahilig. Pero natutuwa na rin ako dahil maraming klase ng sports pa ang aking natutunan....football, softball & volleyball.
Dito rin ako unang naka-experience ng isang Disco Party at ito ay ginawa sa bahay nila Willie. Torpeng-torpe pa ako nuon pero napilit din ako ng mga kaklase para makasayaw...at parang yung si Azenith Briones pa yata ang naisayaw ko...na nung nasa kolehiyo na ako ay nabalitaan ko naging artista na. Sana lang may kodakan na nung panahon na yun para makita ngayon ang porma namin nung araw.
May book reports...ayun dito na ako napasubo ng Inglisan at bolahan kay Bro. Dunne. Ang paborito ko ay Hardy Boys. May monitoring pa si Bro. Dunne nuon sa Book Reports...pero andun lang ako sa minimum requirements...hehe.
Ngayon lang ako makakapagpasalamat ng lubusan sa inyo na laging nagpapakopya ng 'homework' sa umaga at ganun din kapag may pagkakataon na makakopya tuwing may eksamen. Matindi ang sharing lalo na kung may mahirap na mga 'homework' sa Math...kailangang pumasok ng mas-maaga para makumpleto ang 'homework'. Buti na lang laging may mga generous klasmets....Thank you very much!
Pangarap kong magsulat sa 'Ensign' nuon pero eto dito na lang mag-blog.
Bago maging ulyanin...eto sana maisulat ko pa ang istorya namin nung haiskul.
At sana dito man lang sa blog na ito ay magkita-kita kami ng mga dating klasmets ko.
